The home of Johanna & Florian

Johanna and Florian live in an old villa that was built at the turn of the last century, in 1907. It was originally a representative living space for the director of the metal factory that produced butter moulds on the property. Since the 1950’s it has been divided up in three separate apartments, of which Johanna and Florian now own the raised ground floor flat. The factory building is still existent but no longer in use.

The couple has been renovating their home for one and a half years now and are still working on it, but when are you ever done renovating an old building, right? They finally moved in in January and are slowly furnishing and decorating the flat.

Johanna’s interior style is best described as very colourful with an eclectic approach. She loves working with bold and contrasting colours and combining different raw or even experimental materials and textures. When designing the interior of our villa, she also takes into consideration the era it was built in and tries to find a modern reference to what it may have looked like originally.

Since the house was always meant to be a representative building, Johanna has been working on incorporating an elegant and luxurious atmosphere. Nevertheless, using sustainable materials in every aspect from building materials to furniture, textiles and decoration is also very important for her.

Who lives here?

Johanna, 32, shares her home with her boyfriend Florian, 34, who works as an interior designer for an upholstery furniture brand. She herself works in research at a university of applied sciences and is also an interior designer by training.

Why Woodio?

While renovating the old villa, natural and sustainable materials were the main focus for Johanna.
