The Woodio® material we have developed is a completely waterproof wood composite designed as a more ecological alternative to ceramics and stone. The material is a combination of wood chips and a resin-based binder.
Bio material
Raw materials: northern renewable wood and resin-based binder
The raw material used in Woodio products today comes from aspen wood chips sourced from PEFC and FSC certified forests in nearby areas. Our range also includes products made from wood chips derived from the by-products of the Finnish forest industry.
In the production of Woodio® material, a resin-based mixture is used as a binder for the wood chips. The products are surface treated to ensure they are completely waterproof, scratch-resistant, dirt-repellent, and UV-resistant. Woodio products are easy to maintain and highly durable, making them ideal for both private and public spaces.
The wood chips we receive are hand-dyed at our factory using water-soluble stains. The colour palette of our products is inspired by the wild nature of the north. Explore Woodio’s colour range:

Sustainable development
The carbon footprint of Woodio® products is currently 30-50% smaller than that of comparable ceramic products. We are committed to further increasing the biobased content of our material, with the goal that the carbon footprint of products made from our material will be negative by 2025. A product is carbon negative when the carbon it sequesters exceeds the emissions produced during its manufacture and use.
Alongside increasing the biobased content, another significant focus of our product and material development is related to side streams. Our goal is to gradually transition to using side streams from the Finnish forest industry in our products, thereby completely phasing out the use of virgin wood chips as a raw material.

Recycling
Woodio material is highly durable, and at the end of its lifecycle, Woodio products and sheet materials can be sent to our factory in Finland, where the material is sorted and used as part of cement production.
