In recent years, Finnish material innovations have become an international topic of discussion. One of the key players in the field with widespread international recognition is Woodio, a Finnish interior and design brand that combines the best of Nordic design traditions with sustainable bio-material innovation applied in a contemporary way. Modern-day materials will also be prominently featured at the Habitare fair in September. At the request of its customers, Woodio will be launching the new Solid wood composite sheet material at Habitare.

“Since its inception, Woodio® material has attracted at least as much interest as the products made from it. We’ve received many enquiries about the use of Woodio®
material from international pioneers, from Swedish clothing and furniture giants to car manufacturers. Now, at last, we have the opportunity to offer Woodio® material to everyone interested,” says the company’s CSO Juha-Matti Luhtasaari.
Until now, Woodio has been known for bathroom fixtures such as washbasins, toilet seats, and bathtubs. Last spring, Woodio® Block received a substantial amount of attention in international media as the first wood composite toilet seat. Both the brand and the products have been awarded numerous design prizes and acknowledgements over the years.

“Woodio® material offers an alternative to a very traditional sector in which we can see room for a sustainable, wood-based material innovation,” Juha-Matti Luhtasaari says. “Solid was developed in response to a demand for creating unique solutions from Woodio® material for bathrooms and other spaces in homes and public settings. Solid allows our customers to implement different kinds of customised solutions using a material manufactured sustainably at our factory in Helsinki,” says Luhtasaari.
Woodio® Solid is a modern, wear-resistant multipurpose sheet material made of wood composite that combines innovation, unique appearance, and durability. Woodio® Solid gives products an elegant and timeless look, making it perfect for unique compositions for traditional and modern interiors and everything in between.
Being easy to use and work with, it is well-suited to bathroom surfaces and countless other uses in homes and public spaces. The material can be treated in the same way as other wood-based materials.
“In addition to bathroom surfaces, Solid is an excellent choice for shelves and other applications in-store concepts. It can replace many traditional alternatives and, as a recognisable material, the sustainable choice is also visible. For the past year, we’ve been collaborating with Finnish woodworkers to develop new techniques for utilising the Solid sheet. The material is easy to work with, which allows us to create a wide range of solutions with furniture professionals. We will continue to work together with sales channels providing furniture solutions to make the material widely available to consumers. In the future, we plan to make the most of the properties of our material by expanding into kitchens, for example,” Luhtasaari says.
The Solid wood composite sheet will be available in size 2,000 x 760 x 12 mm.
