Uusi Puu, the New Wood project increases awareness of the wood-based bioeconomy. The goal of the Uusi puu project is to increase awareness of the wood-based bioeconomy; highlighting new and existing products and solutions, exploring their impact on society, and offering expert perspectives on the outlook for this innovative industry.
Comprising more than 20 Finnish organisations, Uusi puu is a community that promotes the wood-based bioeconomy and provides information to influencers and political decision-makers about the significance and value of wood-based products.
Uusi puu means “new wood” in Finnish. We want decision-makers and the wider society to discover the full potential of wood-based products!

Woodio was one of the New Wood competition winners in 2018, and participating in the competition has played a vey important role for us – the competition brought our company a considerable amount of visibility and important contacts. The Pentti Malaska Futures Award is given to a research-based and groundbreaking visionary innovation that can help with building a more sustainable global future. The University of Turku has granted the €30,000 Pentti Malaska Futures Award to Finnish company Woodio Oy.

Today the company has launched the world’s first 100% waterproof solid wood composite toilet seat – Woodio Block – made from real wood chips and advanced resins.
Woodio has been selected for funding by the European Innovation Council (EIC), more precisely by its EIC Accelerator programme. The funding comprises a EUR 2.5 million grant and an option for further EUR 5 million equity financing.
Woodio, a manufacturer of innovative solid wood composite bathroom furniture, continues to strengthen its board. Joakim Westerlund brings manufacturing industry and production development experience to the Woodio Board.
